3 Ways to Connect with God in a Busy Season (That Actually Fit Into Your Day)

Let’s be honest—life these days can feel like a constant rush. The calendar is packed, the to-do list never ends, and the thought of “quiet time” can sometimes feel like just another task to check off or unattainable all together.
But connecting with God doesn’t have to mean carving out a three hour block of silence at The Retreat House (though we love those moments, too). Sometimes, the most meaningful connection happens in the middle of the mess. Allowing yourself to ground and become present in the moment.
Here are three ways to ground yourself during a busy season—each one simple, accessible, and life-giving.
1. Breath Prayer: a somatic practice that grounds you
When the world feels chaotic, your body knows it first—racing heart, shallow breath, tense shoulders or jaw. One way to calm your spirit and reconnect with God is through a somatic practice of breath prayer.
Try this:
Sit or stand with both feet flat on the ground.
Take a slow inhale while mentally praying, “Come, Holy Spirit.”
Exhale slowly with, “I am here with You.”
Repeat for 2–5 minutes.
This simple rhythm centers both body and soul, reminding us that God is present in every breath. When we ground ourselves physically, we open ourselves spiritually. Feel free to switch out the sayings that you breathe in and out to match what you need from The Lord. As you breathe, allow your mind to connect with your body, relaxing your shoulders and your jaw, sinking into your chair or into your feet feeling your body calm.
2. Invite God into the Ordinary
You don’t need a special moment to connect with the Divine—He’s already in your routine. God is omnipresent. The key is intentional awareness.
Awareness is such an important indicator of emotional health and intelligence. Learning to be aware of ourselves—our thoughts, feelings, emotions, and even our bodies—gives us valuable clues about what’s happening within us. We can’t heal or address what we’re unaware of.
Slowing our minds down, even to simply notice the task in front of us, helps us practice that deeper knowing. As we settle our thoughts, we begin to recognize where God is present and at work—even in the mundane.
Ideas to try:
Washing dishes? Thank God for the hands to serve and the people you’re feeding.
Driving to work or school? Turn off the radio and pray aloud or sit in silence.
Folding laundry? Reflect on the lives of those you’re folding for—bless each one with love.
Eating lunch between work tasks? Take a moment to savor your food, thanking God for it and for the ability to taste and enjoy.
These small, sacred pauses don’t slow you down—they anchor you in the midst of the busy.
3. Make Space for a Sacred Yes
Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do in a full season is to say yes to just one life-giving thing. A walk. A meal with someone who listens well. A retreat. A moment of stillness.
Ask yourself: What is one small way I can create space for God this week?
Maybe it’s an early morning on the porch. Or a quiet evening journaling. Or maybe—just maybe—it’s saying yes to a few hours at The Retreat House to breathe, rest, and reconnect. We want to encourage you to push through the reasons why you shouldn’t practice making space for a sacred yes and lean into the invitation to connect with nature, yourself, a trusted friend, your journal, and God in the midst of it all-it is time well spent. It reminds me of an affirmation I carried home from a week-long intensive retreat: I am going to do what is best for me today, because it is best for everyone in the long run. That early morning workout class, a guided prayer meditation from Spotify, or the coffee with a friend- things that fuel your soul and body to power through the most hectic seasons.
Even this morning, as I felt frozen by the busyness ahead, I stopped by a new, charming coffee shop in Collierville—Café 127. There’s just something about a cappuccino made by someone else, an eclectic aesthetic, and sitting across the table from Lacey that made the long to-do list feel not only manageable but—dare I say it—enjoyable.
And lastly, remember....
You're not alone in the chaos!
God provides in your season-people, an encouraging podcast or book, The Retreat House. While we might have to turn up our awareness or perspective to see it, God always provides.
At The Retreat House, we exist to remind you that God meets you exactly where you are—not just in the stillness, but in the storm. We believe your soul needs a space to breathe—even in your busiest season.
