Are you feeling the weight of caring for others?
The tension of wanting to be present, ready, and full of compassion- yet feeling exhausted, unseen, or under appreciated. That feeling can be overwhelming and confusing, especially when you genuinely love caring for others or feel called to your vocation. A love of your calling or circumstance doesn't negate the toll it may be taking on your mind, heart, and your body. You're not meant to walk through it alone.
In classrooms, session rooms, church sanctuaries, mission fields and hospital rooms- there are people who wake up each day with one goal: to help others. They teach. They guide. They hold space. They lead. They listen. They carry the weight of others' experiences or feelings- often without space to name or to process their own. You might be moving from one need to another so quickly there isn't even a moment to think about how to care for yourself.
Help for the Helper is an aspect of The Retreat House, born out of deep compassion for these quiet heroes. These are the ones who often go unseen and often unthanked, yet continue to show up with strength and care. We want to offer sacred spaces and pauses for those giving out to be held by God.
Burnout is real. Fatigue builds slowly. For those who are always “on" and always available, it can be hard to find permission to simply stop and find space to be with themselves, with God, with others, and with no responsibilities or expectations.
We have a few ways for you, as a helper, to receive care.

Help for the Helper Retreat
This retreat was designed for deep emotional, spiritual, and social rest. A time for personal reflection, and gentle care. Participants are invited to set down what they’re carrying and receive. Not perform. Not teach. Not lead. Just be and step into intentional hospitality and care.
Our goal is to help nurture, or perhaps awaken, healthy rhythms modeled in Mark’s Gospel: “Come away with me…”. This is often harder than it sounds when life demands so much of our time and presence, but something shifts when we do it together. Shared rest makes space for shared understanding.
When you pause with others to prioritize these rhythms, you gain a common language and experience- one that builds empathy, deepens connection, and sustains the work, long after the retreat ends.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. -Matthew 11:28

Peer Supervision Groups for Counselors and Spiritual Directors
Oct 30th and Dec 4th
12-1:30
The Retreat House is honored to host peer supervision groups for counselors and spiritual directors. This is a- safe, supportive environment where those who hold space for others can find encouragement, accountability, and shared wisdom. These groups provide an opportunity to process experiences, reflect on challenges, and deepen both personal and professional growth in community with others who understand the work of caring for souls. Participation in these groups not only nurtures the heart of your practice but also counts toward furthering education and group supervision hours for those in need.
Cabin Stays
We have a beautifully quaint cabin on property that offers the perfect backdrop for an extended retreat. Whether you’d like to pair your stay with a retreat guide or session work, enjoy meals prepared for you or cook your own, our goal is to meet you where you are. The cabin is designed to provide sacred space for rest, reflection, and time with God.
At The Retreat House, our heart is to care for others, especially those who spend their lives caring for others. Whether through a day retreat, a quiet session, or an overnight cabin stay, we want to offer spaces where you can breathe deeply, be restored, and encounter God’s presence in a fresh way. You don’t have to carry the weight alone- there is a place here for you to pause, be held, and step back into your calling with renewed strength.
